Belgium to fund Kenyan water project

Belgium on Thursday granted Kenya 733 550 euros ($801 000) to fund a water project in the Kenyan Rift Valley district of Baringo, officials said. ”This grant will be used to improve health conditions of people living in northern and central parts of Baringo district through access to quality water and sanitation,” Kenya’s Finance Minister David Mwiraria said.

The grant agreement was signed between Mwiraria and the Belgian ambassador to Kenya, Frederic Renard. ”We have much experience in these (water) projects and want to extend this development to Africa especially in Kenya,” said Renard.

The money will be used to fund the drilling of boreholes, the installation of pumps, defluoridation of the water and the establishment of income-generating projects for women. – Sapa
