Van Biljon in nightclub brawl

Sharks hooker Lukas van Biljon faces an SA Rugby inquiry into his involvement in a brawl at an Empangeni night club in the early hours of Friday morning. The explosive front-rower’s Rugby World Cup dream could be lying in tatters if he is found guilty of misconduct.

SA Rugby’s Senior Communications Manager, Anthony Mackaiser, confirmed on Sunday that a full investigation into the matter would be conducted this week, but squashed speculation that van Biljon would lose his SA rugby contract.

”It is a bit premature to assume that Lukas will be stripped of his Springbok contract at this point,” said Mackaiser.

”We will be looking into the matter during the week and once we’ve done that we will then be in a position to comment further.”

”Basically there is no further comment on the matter at the moment,” he added.

The Afrikaans Sunday newspaper, Rapport, reported that the fiery hooker had already been reprimanded and fined for the incident by the Natal Rugby Union.

According to the report, van Biljon punched one of the bar’s patrons before head-butting another. He was then asked to leave the club by the owner. After returning to his hotel room, the intoxicated van Biljon proceeded to rip down the curtains.

The next morning the room was discovered in a shocking state by hotel staff.
