Amaglug-glug’s Nasief Morris has been temporarily banned from playing soccer by world governing body Fifa, it was announced on Monday.
According to BBC website, the Panathinaikos central defender is not allowed to play in any Greek league, friendly or official international matches.
The former Santos player was suspended by Fifa after the referee who handled the Amaglug-glug Olympic qualifier against Zambia in Chingola reported that Morris attempted to attack him. Zambia won the February 21 match 2-1.
South Africa’s hopes of qualifying for the Olympics were dashed after losing 2-1 to Ghana in Pretoria at the weekend. They will wrap-up their qualifiers with an away fixture against Algeria at the end of the month.
Fifa is expected to make a final ruling on the matter in the next 30 days.
Greece-based Morris and South African soccer authorities were not immediately available for comment. – Sapa
