Prior to their big midweek Premier Soccer League fixture against Kaizer Chiefs, Supersport United coach Pitso Mosimane has declared their game against the Amakhosi not all that important to his side.
Mosimane claimed that more crucial was for his side to beat Al Hilal of Sudan in their first-leg CAF Champions Cup match at the weekend as that tournament is by far the most lucrative African club competition.
This they accomplished with a 2-0 win over their Horn of Africa opposition. Both goals were scored in the second half.
It took Supersport United striker Aubin Takuche 52 minutes, after a connecting a cleverly cut pass from Dennis Masina, to break the deadlock. The running Takuche rifled a textbook shot into the Al Hilal goal that sent the Pretoria faithfuls into a frenzy.
With the South African team in the lead, the two foes went toe to toe: Supersport wanting to increase their tally and the visitors trying to reduce the deficit.
But Lady Luck chose South Africa over Sudan, as the Sudanese attempts continually went wide of their target.
It all happened in the 71st minute when Supersport United fans’ darling, Abram Raselemane, thundered one — a Golden Boot Award contender — from a direct kick into the Al Hilal goal, after United’s Cavann Sibeko was fouled.
But as experts like Jomo Sono said, United still have a job to do when the two teams meet in a fortnight for the return leg in Sudan. — Sapa
