German kites across Australia

A German adventurer has become the first person to cross Australia from south to north using a kite-powered skateboard.

Dirk Gion left Adelaide in South Australia 17 days ago and arrived in the Northern Territory city of Darwin on Tuesday.

Gion said the 3 000km trip proved a kite-powered skateboard was a mode of transport for the long haul.

”Twenty years ago I did all around Australia on a dirt bike,” he told national broadcaster ABC.

”So I thought the Stuart Highway might be very good for doing this because no trees, nothing, and you can go as long as you want.

”I thought that might be a good idea and nobody has done it before.” ‒ Sapa-DPA
