Israeli sets sail on water bottles

An Israeli who tried to set sail for his native Moldova on a raft strung together with water bottles has been intercepted by coastal guards, the Maariv daily reported on Wednesday.

”I am not crazy,” Genadi Lambas (38) reportedly told coast guards after his raft was intercepted 28km from the Israeli coast, police told the newspaper.

He was travelling with a mattress, food supplies, tools and a motorbike, which he was apparently hoping to use after reaching land, the sources said.

Photographed at sea with a motorbike helmet on his head, his raft was kept float by 448 mineral water bottles. The man told coast guards he was confident of his safety after ”praying to the gods of wind and Neptune, and sea”. — Sapa-AFP
