Pirates stretch their lead

Orlando Pirates stretched their lead in the Castle Premiership after defeating Supersport United 2-0 at Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday.

Pirates led 1-0 at half-time.

The result takes Pirates eight points clear on the top of the log with 28 points, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates’ Steve Lekoelea capped his return from suspension with a goal in the 43rd minute, when he converted an indirect free kick awarded in the Sundowns penalty box.

Lebogang Mokoena increased the lead on the stroke of full-time to 2-0 when he latched on to a Lekoelea cross.

However, Pirates should have won by a far bigger margin as numerous scoring opportunities were squandered, notably by Tyron Arendse. — Sapa
