The Gauteng Department of Education will on Wednesday release matric results of 71,382 candidates who wrote the 2004 examinations, spokesman Panyaza Lesufi said on Monday.
Addressing journalists at a media briefing in Johannesburg, Lesufi said MEC Angie Motshekga would release the results at a ceremony at the Witswatersrand College of Education.
Motshekga would also honour the top achievers in the province.
Gauteng Premier, Mbhazima Shilowa, is expected to attend the ceremony, along with several MECs.
Kaizer Chief’s assistant coach Doctor Khumalo, Kwaito singer Mdu Masilela, the king of Kwaito Arthur Mafokate and SAfm presenter, Thabiso Shikwane would also attend the ceremony.
Former students who now occupy positions of influence in society such as Emanuel Lediga, a stock exchange broker and Professor Mike Sathegke would also attend.
Lesufi said this year’s results would highlight areas of concern and success per district and examination subject.
The results would be available from 6am on the newspapers, mobile phones, and the education website. However, they would only be available in schools from 8am, said Lesufi. – Sapa
