DA’s Gibson denies comparison with ANCYL man

Democratic Alliance chief whip Douglas Gibson said he could never have made remarks comparing his son with African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) spokesperson Zizi Kodwa, as was reported last week.

He was commenting on a South African Press Association (Sapa) article about his return from Zimbabwe, where he was barred entry.

In the Sapa article, Gibson was reported as reacting to a comment by Zondi saying his own son had more sense than the ANCYL spokesperson — who was, according to the report’s version of Gibson’s comments, probably wearing a Gucci outfit and would be a millionaire before the age of 25.

”The comparison is wrong. My son is a competent 28-year-old professional man whom I respect. I would never compare him with Mr Kodwa, who is someone whose name I did not know, and whom I have never heard of.

”It remains my view, however, that the ANCYL has nothing constructive to offer South Africa.”

Gibson said the Sapa reporter must have misheard him.

However, he was not able to recall what he had in fact said. — Sapa
