Proud school’s 100% matric success

For the sixth year in a row the Northern Province’s Mbilwi Secondary School achieves a 100% matric pass rate.

ALPHEUS SIEBANE reports

THE proudest school in the Northern Province, Mbilwi Secondary, lived up to its reputation with a 100% matric pass rate last year – and 96,49% of students got exemptions.

No other major government school in the province could match it.

Of the 114 pupils who wrote at Mbilwi, 110 got exemptions and the remaining four secured an SE symbol.

Headmaster Nditsheni Ramugondo said even the SE pass would guarantee acceptance at most top institutions.

He said all his pupils were ready to write matric by the time of the 10-day holiday last October.

Top pupil Thanya Ndou got four distinctions, and this is the sixth year Mbilwi Secondary achieved a 100% pass rate.

At Muruinwa Private School at Louis Trichardt, only three pupils wrote matric, and they all got exemptions.

Compared to their teacher/pupil rate of 1:3, Mbliwi’s is 1:40.

One school that came from nowhere to near the top of the ladder is Mamvuka High School at Nzhelele, with a 92,31% matric pass.

Schools that fared worst were mainly in the northern region of the province.
