The South African government has given the go-ahead to state-owned enterprises to sell about 20 companies during the next 18 months, South African Broadcasting Corporation news reported on Tuesday.
Most of the companies to be sold belong to arms manufacturer Denel, Eskom and Transnet. They will be sold as part of government’s restructuring process.
”We’re looking at seven or eight billion rands worth of potential assets. Our estimate is that it should be possible within the next 18 months to dispose of the assets,” said Minister of Public Enterprises Alec Erwin.
He said priority will be given to black economic empowerment for the ”vast majority” of the companies up for sale. – Sapa
