A trade union has rejected a revised salary offer from South African Airways (SAA) as ground and cabin staff strike for a fourth day, South African Broadcasting Corporation news reported on Monday.
The United Association of SA (Uasa) rejected an offer of a five percent increase and a once-off payment of R1 600.
The SABC quoted fellow trade union SA Transport and Allied Workers Association as saying it would make a decision on whether to accept or reject the offer by 9am.
Meanwhile, SAA has sent eight planes to collect stranded passengers at various international destinations as a ground and cabin staff strike enters its fourth day.
Quoting SAA spokesperson Onkgopotse Tabane, SABC news said the planes had been sent to Atlanta and Washington in the United States, Zurich in Switzerland, Britain and Frankfurt, Germany.
SAA made a revised wage offer on Saturday night, which included an increase in housing and medical aid contributions.
The unions want an eight percent increase.
SAA appealed to passengers to postpone travelling with the airline until normal operations resumed.
The strike action has forced SAA to cancel regional and international flights. Domestic flights would be assessed on an hourly basis.
The strike, which started on Friday after a deadlock in pay negotiations, saw people queuing for hours in long lines, while others slept among piles of baggage. – Sapa
