Tembisa Classic collected maximum points when they beat Ajax Cape Town 2-0 in a Castle Premiership encounter played at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday night.
The home side led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a goal by Colleen Zimba in the 32nd minute. Classic showed from the start of the game that they needed all three points by pushing forward in numbers in search of goals.
They were rewarded in the 57th minute when Obinna Okafor increased the lead when he converted Zimba’s excellent pass.
Three minutes later, Okafor’s second goal was disallowed. He was adjudged offside.
This was Classic’s second win under the new leadership of Pietermaritzburg tycoons. They collected their first maximum points of the season by beating Silver Stars away from home a couple of weeks ago.
Santos, Leopards draw
In a poor display of soccer played at Cape Town’s Athlone Stadium, both Santos and Black Leopards failed to score during a dull Premier Soccer League match.
It was Santos’ fifth draw in seven games.
In the seventh minute, Santos’ Carlo Scott chased a long ball on the right, cut in and from an acute angle fired in a shot that just went wide of the far upright. At the other end, Ramudzuli Rudzani came close when he rounded goalkeeper Brendon Wardle outside the box, only to find Musa Ongao on the line and he cleared.
In the 38th minute, Tebogo Mashaba’s low, hard shot was well held by a diving Wardle.
Leopards came close in the 42nd minute when a powerful shot from Rudzani was only parried by Wardle, but Zvenyika Makonesi cleared the loose ball.
Santos did most of the pressing in the second half, but poor finishing saw a blank sheet. In the 69th minute, Lebohang Kukane’s shot was brilliantly held by Guy Mutshi in the only incident in the second stanza that came close to breaking the deadlock. — Sapa
