In Cape Town yesterday, seven shortlisted nominees were interviewed by the portfolio committee on communication to fill two positions that become available on the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) board at the end of 2005. The shortlisted names, nominated through Parliament, are: Ms J Batjies, Ms S Goba, Dr T Jara, Mr GM Mkhize, Mr B Mukhuba, Ms AL Sitaram and Mr C Moerdyk.
Despite general industry mystification as to the background and identities of six of the seven names, the committee would not agree to eMedia’s request for CVs.
The committee’s recommendations will now go to the House of Assembly, where they will be debated before the president makes the final appointments. Current board member Chris Moerdyk is standing for re-election, with Nunu Ntshingila stepping down.
The new board will convene in January.
