New way to buy fuel

Thanks to prices that are starting to look like telephone numbers, petrol is becoming a grudge purchase, like tyres. With that in mind, fuel companies and their allied filling stations are improving their acts — rarely do you get bad service, the forecourts are generally clean and accessible, while many stations boast convenience stores.

BP has raised the game further with the launch of the FuelMaster Express microchip tag, which can be used at any BP filling station with FuelMaster-enabled pumps on its forecourt.

The tag, which comes in the form of a keyring, is free and there are no extra charges — but you must have a valid garage card from a banking institution to be eligible for one. You need to tell the service station attendant that you will be using the tag before he or she starts filling up.

BP has 480 filling stations across South Africa and another 20 in Namibia with FuelMaster Express. All transactions are automatically recorded on your garage card account, so you don’t even need to wait for a receipt (although, naturally, you can ask for one if you require it).

The tag uses the highest levels of security, and because it’s attached to your car keys the tag never leaves your sight. It only records the amount of fuel the pump dispenses, so there’s no way anyone can “steal” from your account.

Using the tag has other advantages such as automatic qualification for a 15% discount on Automobile Association roadside assistance membership. BP also offers a reward scheme that includes free holidays, cash, vouchers and exclusive special offers at BP Express shops and Wild Bean Cafes.
