German police had to resort to shutting down a highway to stop an elderly man driving down the wrong side of the road, apparently so convinced he was in the right that he continually blinked his lights at oncoming traffic, authorities said.
Police near the northern city of Ratzeburg sounded bullhorns and flashed the emergency blue lights from 10 cars to try and get the 82-year-old to pull over on the A1 highway, but he continued along at 110kph for about 70km before stopping for the police roadblock that had been set up.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor, but police said the man had no explanation how he ended up in the wrong lane or why he didn’t stop for them. — Sapa-AP
