Gauteng marriage proposal: one page, R42 000

A Gauteng man has spent more than R42 000 to propose to his ”angel” Anita in a full-page newspaper advert on Thursday.

On bended knee in the Afrikaans daily Beeld, looking imploringly into the camera and clutching more than 25 red roses, the man asks: ”Anita, my angel, will you marry me?”

Beeld‘s advertising department was reluctant to give details, but the South African Press Association established that an advert such as this would have set the deep-pocketed romantic back R42 537.

Appearing to be in his 30s, the aspiring groom is dressed in a striped shirt, with a thick gold bracelet on his right wrist and a big golden ring on his right hand.

An expensive-looking watch is half-hidden behind the leaves of the bouquet.

Sporting a goatee, the man is smiling hopefully at the camera.

The question is whether his hopes and investment will lead to a ring on his left hand in the near future. — Sapa
