A dash of olive oil

The country’s olive producers gather this weekend for the third annual Cape Olive Fair on October 25 and 26.

This year’s event shifts venues from Groot Constantia to the Cape Castle of Good Hope, offering improved facilities and creating what its promoters have termed an ‘Old World market ambience”.

Olive producers will travel to the fair from as far afield as the Karoo, Winelands, Overberg and the West Coast to display their table olives, olive oil, tapenade, olive bread, wine and publications.

The two-day programme will include informal talks and tastings. The ambience will be enhanced by Fine Music Radio as well as performances by the El Tango en Africa tango ensemble.

The ticket price of R50 a person includes a wine glass, shopping bag, visitors’ map and access to exhibition and museum areas. Free parking is available at the Grand Parade and Sanlam Golden Acre. Advance booking is encouraged.

Tickets are available at Computicket or call Tel: 083 915 8000. For more information visit www.olivefair.com.
