SAfm breakfast show hosts resign

The hosts of SAfm’s breakfast news show AM Live have resigned. John Perlman told eMedia that he will leave at the end of February and that he had no future plans yet. His colleague, Nikiwe Bikitsha, will also leave the public broadcaster to work for Cable News Broadcasting Corporation Africa (CNBC).

“It is an international broadcaster and it is a huge opportunity. I’m ready to take the next step,” said Bikitsha about her reasons for leaving.

Perlman last year confronted the SABC’s spokesman on air about a blacklist of political commentators known to be critical of the government. It sparked an internal inquiry which confirmed the existence of such a list.

The SABC is yet to announce new hosts for the morning show.
