Chiefs blast Celtic

Kaizer Chiefs went on the rampage and blasted Bloemfontein Celtic 4-0 in a Premier soccer League game played at Absa Stadium in Durban on Saturday night.

Chiefs led 2-0 at the interval.

Chiefs, under the guidance of Kostadin Papic and Johannes Mofokeng for the first time, started attacking from the first whistle.

Celtic did very little to impress and their only chance came in the 48th minute when Lebonjoa Mphongoa’s shot was saved by an agile Rowen Fernandez.

Kaizer Motaung Jnr, the Chiefs striker, scored a hat-trick. His first goal came in the 27th minute of the game after he received a cross from Arthur Zwane.

His second found the back of the net from the spot kick after a Celtic defender brought down Siyabonga Nkosi inside the box.

He completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute after a rebound from Celtic ‘keeper Shaun Walters.

Motaung Jnr was, once again, in the picture in the 43rd minute of the first half when he broke down from the right flank to send over a cross, which landed on Shaun Barlett’s foot. He made no mistake in putting the ball into the net.

Chiefs’ new coach Papic watched the match from the stands while his assistant, Mofokeng, was on the bench.

Celtic goalkeeper Walters made three magnificent saves when he collected well-taken shots from Motaung Jnr, Siyabonga Nkosi and Emmanuel ”Scara” Ngobese.

In the 78th minute, Chiefs brought on Gerald Sibeko for Arthur Zwane and Celtic introduced midfielder Reagan Noble for James Madidilane. — Sapa
