Graham Briggs has been appointed CEO of Harmony Gold Mining with effect from January 1 2008, the company said on Wednesday.
Harmony — the world’s fifth biggest gold producer — appointed a selection panel at the end of October 2007, made up of four non-executive board members, to oversee the selection process for the position of CEO, the mining company said.
The panel used an executive search company to find a suitable candidate.
”Discussions” with 36 potential candidates were held and four people were shortlisted.
Chairperson of Harmony’s board Patrice Motsepe said: ”Graham proved to be the outstanding candidate … He has been overseeing the introduction of the Harmony ”back-to-basics” management style and has done a great job.
”Harmony is on its way to being the globally competitive and profitable company that we know it can be.”
Briggs has been acting CEO at Harmony since August.
