Downs, Celtic play to goalless draw

Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic drew 0-0 in an exciting Premier Soccer League match on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld to both remain in the bottom half of the 16-team table.

Sundowns, though, jumped to 12th place with 25 points, while Celtic stay 11th on 26 points.

Lerato Chabangu, Godfrey Sapula and Bryan Algarve all missed glorious chances to put the home side ahead in the first half. However, goalkeeper Simon Gopane had an outstanding game and stopped Chabangu from scoring in the 35th minute.

Algarve missed the best chance of the game when he blasted over the posts from eight yards out.

Second-half substitutes Surprise Moriri and Brent Carelse also tested the Celtic goalkeeper.

Celtic held on for a hard-fought point and Gopane was duly nominated man of the match for his heroics. — Sapa
