Two directors leave SA Rugby

SA Rugby on Friday confirmed the departure of Jonathan Stones and Mpumelelo Tshume from the board of directors.

The board also announced that Stones will vacate his position as MD of SA Rugby, by mutual consent, at the end of the month.

Other decisions taken at the meeting include the board recommending to the presidents’ council that the South African Rugby Union should confine its Rugby World Cup bid to the 2019 tournament.

Furthermore, Saru president Oregan Hoskins and company financial director Basil Haddad have been mandated to visit the Border Rugby Union to discuss that union’s financial problems.

The sale of SA Rugby’s 50% share in the professional arm of the South Western Districts to private equity company Bunker Capital was noted.

It was also confirmed that the proposed match between South Africa and Ireland in the northern hemisphere at the end of the season will not take place. — Sapa
