Setting the stage for a spectacle

A touch of South Africa’s finest creativity will be on display at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Confederations Cup.

The 2010 Fifa World Cup Local Organisning Committee South Africa (LOC) has appointed the internationally acclaimed VWV Consortium to take charge of the spectacular displays to be broadcast to the world audience.

The consortium will be joined by Grammy award winner and co-producer of the Lion King (in South Africa), Lebo M. He has been roped in to work with VWV Group in the production of the eagerly anticipated ceremonies to be staged at Ellis Park Stadium on June 14.

Lebo M’s CV speaks for itself. His production of the Lion King is globally acclaimed and saw record attendances in theatres around the world. The LOC could not have picked a better name to be part of the team entrusted with bringing a theme that celebrates this global extravaganza’s first stop in Africa.

”Lebo M is a true South African and indeed a global entertainment industry icon. We are delighted that he will bring his creativity and incredible talent to the tournament,” said Danny Jordaan.

There is no price for guessing the theme Lebo M and his partners have in mind.

”We look forward to delivering uniquely African ceremonies that will set the stage for a truly world-class event,” said Lebo M.

He will be ably supported by Jack Morton Worldwide, which has been added as an associate producer. The creative minds of this group served as production consultants in last year’s Beijing Olympic Games, which staged the best opening ceremony witnessed in world sport.

Jack Morton Worldwide, which also worked in the same role at the 2004 Athens Olympics, will no doubt bring global experience to the team. ”With this team, we are sure these ceremonies will be distinctly African and world class,” said Jordaan.
