The state is still to decide on whether to prosecute Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius for allegedly assaulting a woman, police said on Wednesday.
Sergeant Marinda Stoltz said Pistorius did not appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court as expected on Wednesday because his case was not put on the court roll.
A senior prosecutor who saw the docket on Tuesday had asked the police to first investigate the matter fully.
”In the case of common assault, the case is investigated fully. Thereafter the docket is sent to the senior prosecutor for a decision to prosecute,” Stoltz said.
She said this could take a month or two.
”If the state decides to prosecute, Mr Pistorius will be called to appear in court.”
Pistorius (22) spent Saturday night behind bars for allegedly assaulting a woman who had attended a gathering at his Silverlakes house.
The 19-year-old, a friend of his, was allegedly fighting with her boyfriend during a small get-together on Saturday afternoon.
Pistorius told them to go outside. She later returned to the house alone and allegedly started kicking the doors.
While she was doing this Pistorius opened the door and told her to leave his house. When he closed the door on her, one of the door panels allegedly hit her on the leg.
Pistorius was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was released on a warning on Sunday morning after the charge was changed to common assault. — Sapa
