South Africa has for many years been left in the Dark Ages due to a clause in the Petroleum Products Act that prevented people from buying petrol on credit. This meant if we didn’t want to pay with cash we had to have a garage card, which came at an additional banking cost.
However, last year that all changed and most major petrol stations, like BP and Engen, will accept both your debit card and credit card. BP this week took it a step further by accepting Visa and MasterCard gift cards at their petrol stations. For parents this could be a good way to provide students with their monthly petrol allowance.
