Personally I am no fan of the Regulation of Interception of Communication Act (Rica) as it seems like one more level of red tape we have to deal with. But when I received my cellphone statement informing me that my service would be discontinued in January if I did not comply, I decided to take action.
The process is very quick. I just walked into the nearest branch of my service provider, showed them my ID, they confirmed by details and I walked out again. You also need to show proof of address like a bank statement or even a store card statement, but in my case the chap didn’t even glance at it.
No matter your views on the Act, it is a process we can’t escape so at least it is a painless one.
