I am a sports fanatic. Ever since the start of the cricket World Cup, you will find me glued to my TV screen, something my fiancée criticises me for.
Once I am hooked on the screen, I can’t do anything else.
Apart from that, you will find us experimenting with recipes in the kitchen. I know I make the best cottage pie.
Movies are the next best thing for me. I watch anything from drama to kung fu. My favourite movies are those set in the city, in which the story centres on drugs and gangsters. I find most interesting the themes of trust, relationships and love.
One of the best movies was Requiem for a Dream, directed by Darren Aronofsky. I loved the directing and also how the story just revealed itself. I love theatre, too. Nothing is as exciting as seeing the audience and picking up its energy. A live audience is so much better than the screen.
I am reading a book called Believing Christ by Stephen Robinson. It’s one the of greatest books I have ever read. I come from a very religious home and, in the past few years, I have started looking back at my spiritual side. The book is just what I wanted. It explores how God is always a source of strength. All we need is to have faith and believe in him.
Comedy brings lightness to my life. After a long day at work, I sit in front of the TV and catch some comedy.
My favourites include Two and Half Men featuring Charlie Sheen and the British comedy series My Family.
Life is hectic and busy and laughter reminds me not to take myself too seriously. I love laughing. I make a joke out of everything. It’s the best medicine.
On Thursday you will find me at Six in Melville. The atmosphere is ecstatic and you see all kinds of people with different styles. I love the music. They play anything from R&B to soul and your singalong songs such as Michael Jackson’s hit Thriller. I also love hip-hop and lately I have been listening to more local artists like Hip-Hop Pantsula and Tumi and the Volume — their rhymes and lyrics just make me want to dance.
One of my best holiday destinations in the world is Brazil. In fact, I wanted to relocate there but I couldn’t because I don’t speak Portuguese. It is much like South Africa: the people are relaxed, welcoming and friendly and they just know how to celebrate life.
My next trip is to India, even though I hear it’s hectic and not the most hygienic place.
I find places like those attractive. I love to experience the culture and the food.
Nat Ramabulana was one of the two actors in The Girl in the Yellow Dress, winner of a Naledi award for best new South African play or musical and best performance by an actor in a supporting role for his part in Master Harold and the Boys.
