The Democratic Alliance (DA) is presenting its case to Parliament’s portfolio committee on justice and correctional services on why a formal inquiry to assess public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office must be established.

The committee started on Wednesday morning by getting Mkhwebane to answer questions after failing to appear at the meeting that was meant to take place last week.

Mkhwebane explained her office’s process around appointing special advisers following allegations that she appointed an adviser outside of the directives of the Public Finance Management Act. Mkhwebane also answered questions on the rules and policies of her office.
