Weekend Rothmans Cup action

MONDAY, 1.00PM:

VAAL Professionals scored a 5-4 win over league champions Manning Rangers in a first-leg Rothmans Cup quaterfinals match at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

Rangers defender Liswa Nduti opened the score in the fourth minute through an Innocent Chikoya corner kick. Rabbie Nkoane’s equalising goal in the 28th minute brought Pros back in the game. Pros’ Joseph Chikoti made it 2-1 before half-time.

Substitute Enerst Morumo scored a brace in the 54th and 79th minute. Geelbooi Masango made it 5-1 after connecting a Jabu Mnguni cross in the 73rd minute.

Rangers came back strongly in the dying minutes of the game and they scored three goals to make the fulltime score 5-4. Robson Seakamela scored an own goal, Simon Makhubela incresed the tally to 5-3 and Kerryn Jordaan made it 5-4.

Orlando Pirates scored a stunning 4-0 victory over Sanlam Santos in a Rothmans Cup match at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Dumisa Ngobe opened the score in the 30th minute. Simon Magagula increased the tally in the 35th minute. Bruce Ramokhadi scored a brace in the 46th minute and 48th minute.

An 86th-minute goal by substitute Randall Borman gave Mamelodi Sundowns a well-deserved 1-0 victory over AmaZulu at Kings Park Stadium on Sunday. Both teams played an entertaining game from the first whistle, but it was Sundowns who found the rhythm midway through the first half. Pitso Mosimane and Daniel Mudau were the stars in the “Brazilians” team; they dictated terms and made AmaZullu chase they own shadows.

Kaizer Chiefs scored a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wits University at FNB Stadium on Sunday. Substitute Thabang Lebese, who replaced Marcus Mphafudi in the 38th minute, brought change to the Amakhosi side and won them a penalty. Wits defender Rowan Malgue handled the ball in the 42nd minute and referee Petrus Mathabela did not hesitate to award Amakhosi a penalty. Mark Williams converted to give Chioefs a 1-0 win.
