POLICE on Monday morning confirmed that 34 people were killed in a horror bus crash on Sunday night in the Free State. The bus was en route to Johannesburg from Kokstad in KwaZulu-Natal on the N3 highway between Villiers and Warden in the Free State when a tire burst around 7.30pm. The bus lost control and plunged off a bridge, landing nose first in a dry river bed some 12m below. About 15 emergency vehicles from Warden, Harrismith and Villiers rushed to the scene soon after the accident. Rescue personnel on Monday described the crash as the most devastating they have witnessed.
