OIL group Engen has acquired British Petroleum and Fina subsidiaries in Rwanda, taking control of 25% of Rwanda’s petrol distribution, an Engen official said on Monday. “The entire Rwandan market represents the equivalent of one European highway petrol station. But Rwanda is interesting because of its geographic position, it is a bridge to other countries,” said the head of Engen in Rwanda, Pierre Soyer.Engen’s plans are inspired by an old dream, Soyer said. “From Cape Town to Cairo, travellers will one day be able to make the trip by road by filling up only at Engen stations,” he said. Already well established in southern Africa, the company now wants to expand its retail sales network in central Africa.
