MOROCCO CUP HOSTS?

MOROCCAN coach Henri Michel said on Wednesday he is confident the North African nation could host the 2000 African Nations Cup in place of Zimbabwe, the original scheduled hosts. The African Football Confederation (CAF) stripped Zimbabwe of its right to host the tournament earlier this month over what it deemed were inadequate preparations and Michel is insisting the Moroccans have the facilities required to step in. “An African Nations Cup in Morocco is very important and the kingdom has all the facilities required to stage it successfully: modern stadia, marvellous fans and an adequate infrastructure,” said Michel. CAF’s executive committee will decide which of Morocco, Egypt and Nigeria will be chosen when it meets on March 10.
