ABOUT 100 people were killed when two rival Kenyan tribes fought during a cattle rustling raid in the north-western Turkana district last week, a local newspaper reported on Tuesday. The Daily Nation newspaper quoted Bishop Stephen Kewasis as saying that he counted the bullet-riddled bodies of 100 people at the scene of the fighting, which took place on Thursday. Among the dead were 28 women, who are believed to have been raped before being shot, and at least 15 children below the age of 12, the bishop said. The fighting pitted Turkana tribesmen against an estimated 1000 Pokot warriors who invaded Turkana villages to steal livestock.
