ANGOLAN government forces on Tuesday announced they have captured from Unita rebels the town of Kune in the central Bie province. Over the weekend, the army pushed back rebels in the area and took control of a bridge on the Kune river. Its objective is to recapture the Kunyinga area from Unita.According to a military source in Luanda, the army is trying to win back positions it lost in early March during a failed offensive against Andulo, north of Kune.On Saturday, the army announced the recapture of Ambuila and Nsosso in the northern Vije province. Last November, the Angolan government announced an offensive to “neutralise” Unita, accusing it of reneging on peace accords signed in 1994.
