ZAMBIA, ANGOLA TO MEET

ZAMBIAN President Frederick Chiluba is expected to meet his Angolan counterpart Jose Eduardo Dos Santos in Swaziland next week to discuss allegations of gun-running by officials in Lusaka to Angola’s Unita rebels. The persistent allegations have severely strained relations between the neighbouring southern African states. Zambian state radio announced the meeting Tuesday, quoting foreign minister Kelly Walubita saying the talks will take place at a neutral venue in Swaziland on May 10. Chiluba announced recently that Angola has agreed to discuss the issue of arms smuggling. Chiluba has persistently denied his country’s involvement in the arms smuggling and has invited international observers to verify the allegations.
