Holidays hit April vehicle sales

THE National Association of Automobile Manafacturers of South Africa said on Tuesday that the Easter long weekend led to a decline in the vehicle sales compared to the corresponding month last year.

Figures released by Naamsa showed that new car sales dropped last month by 14,7%, or 2827 units, to 16405 units, against 19323 units sold in the corresponding month last year.

New light commercial vehicle sales reflected a similar pattern, slumping by 14,4% to 8090 units sold against 9448 units in April last year.

Medium commercials fell by 5,7%, or 27 units to 447 units, while heavy truck and bus sales fell 4,6%, or 28 units, to 583.
