THE South African Democratic Teachers’ Union on Friday added its weight to the campaign to have Mpumalanga education MEC David Mabuza held personally accountable for the province’s matric exam scandal on Thursday. Sadtu’s provincial general council said in a statement that Mabuza had acted negligently and should be held personally accountable. The council added that Mabuza’s head of department, Faith Sithole, and acting examinations director, Gogo Ndlovana, should be forced to resign or fired. “Everyone who wrote their matric exams in 1998 has been stained for life by this scandal and the public has lost all confidence in the education department,” said Sadtu’s provincial chair, Sipho Twala.
