SEVERAL non-governmental organisations dealing with HIV-Aids in Namibia have expressed their support for a $100-million prevention programme launched in Johannesburg recently. Government has distanced itself from the project which targets Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and South Africa. The Director of Namibia’s Aids Care Trust, Apere David, told The Namibian this week that they are very interested in what the programme has to offer. Over the next five years 100-million will be spent on improving HIV-Aids research and community outreach through the programme. The United States-based pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb is financially underwriting the project, which has been hailed by the United Nations.
