BUS DRIVER COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER ACCIDENT

THE driver of a bus which overturned on the N1 highway near Klapmuts early on Friday, injuring seven people, shot himself in the head after the accident, Cape police said. He died at the scene. Boland police spokesman Captain William Reid said Minnie Jingele Dukuza, (36) of Khayelitsha was on his way to Cape Town. There were four women and three children on the bus. While travelling on the N1 highway near the Klipheuwel/Stellenbosch turnoff, a truck attempted to overtake another truck and collided with the bus. The bus overturned and ended up on its side next to the road. The seven people inside the bus were only slightly injured. Dukuza allegedly inspected the damage and then took out a firearm and shot himself in the head. An inquest will be held. Police are also investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving against one of the truck drivers.
