FREDERICKS PULLS OUT

FORMER world champion Frankie Fredericks pulled out of Friday’s 200m final because of injury. Fredericks has been complaining all week of running injured and after a meeting with his doctor on Friday the Namibian decided not to run. He is suffering from an infected nerve in his left hamstring. “Frankie has been in extreme pain throughout the season,” said his manager Jukka Harkonen. “During the 100 metre heats the injury was very painful. Curiously the first round of the 200m saw the injury improving a little but ever since then the pain has got worse,” he added. Harkonen said Fredericks is hoping to run in the African Games next month but no final decision had been taken.
