FORMER Mpumalanga Premier Mathews Phosa’s R2,5-million mansion in Nelspruit is up for sale after his successor, Ndaweni Mahlangu, refused to use it as his official residence. The house, dubbed the ‘White Palace’ by locals, was rebuilt almost from scratch at taxpayer’s expense in 1995 and includes a R835000 security wall, R400000 electric fence and a R1,3-million mansion set in a landscaped garden. Mahlangu ordered the province to spend a total R629000 renovating another three-bedroom Nelspruit house.
