ROAD DEATHS: 635

THE road death toll since the start of holiday season on December 1 has reached 635. That’s over 30 deaths more than the same time last year. The Arrive Alive campaign said on the weekend, that at least 29 people had been killed on South African roads since Christmas Eve. In KwaZulu-Natal, Arrive Alive issued warnings of mudslides, flooding and cave-ins following the recent heavy rainfalls. Kwazulu-Natal traffic authorities have warned motorists of a huge mudslide obstructing a lane on the R56 between Richmond and Ixopo in Umkomaas Valley.
