MEMBERS of Côte d’Ivoire’s football team were being held in the capital Yamoussoukro on Tuesday, following their elimination from the African Nations Cup, reliable sources said. The players passports and cellphones have apparently been confiscated, although a source said this was standard practice when the players regrouped for a rest. The source, who asked not to be identified, said General Robert Guei, who seized power in a bloodless coup last year, is unhappy with the team’s performance. Guei is expected to meet with the team today.
