COSATU TO BOYCOTT BUDGET HEARING

THE Congress of South African Trade Unions said on Thursday that it will, for a third year in a row boycott’s Parliament’s hearings on the budget, describing the current hearings as “a waste of taxpayers’ money.” “It serves no logical purpose to participate in budget hearings when the elected representatives cannot amend or oversee the budget,” Cosatu said in a statement. The current hearings were a waste of taxpayers’ money. “Elected representatives oversee expenditure and revenue decisions in most democracies and Cosatu believes — in line with our Constitution –that South Africa should not sell itself short in this regard.”
