IKPEBA FINED FOR SLAMMING CLUB

NIGERIAN striker Victor Ikpeba was slammed with a $7500 fine by Borussia Dortmund coach Bernd Krauss for remarks made to Sport-Bild magazine on Tuesday. Ikpeba unleashed a scathing attack on his team-mates, saying: “Many players here are at the end of their careers and don’t have the necessary ambition to succeed.” When asked if he made a mistake by leaving current French leaders Monaco at the beginning of the season, he replied, “Yes I made an error in fact I made an enormous error”. “I am not of the mentality where one thinks only of money,” he added. “A footballer must be free in his mind before he can give the best of himself,” he said. Dortmund, crowned European and World Champions in 1997, are in a dismal slump having gone eight games without victory. Ikpeba, 26, exempted experienced German internationals Jurgen Kohler and Stefan Reuter from criticism.
