SOME of the world’s most influential business people will be meeting this weekend with President Thabo Mbeki and senior members of his cabinet to discuss foreign investment in South Africa. The first meeting of the International Investment Committee – which was announced by Mbeki on February 4 when he addressed Parliament – will be held at a luxury game reserve resort in Mpumalanga. Only three of the 12-member Council will not be present at this weekend’s discussions because of other commitments. Amongst those attending will be Minoru Makihara, chairperson of the Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan; Sam Jonah, CEO of Ashanti Goldfields of Ghana and Jurgen Schrempp, CEO of Daimler-Chrysler.
