GOLD FIELDS J-V SCOOPS NEW MINERAL FIND

GOLD Fields Ltd and Finland’s Outokumpu Oyj said they had discovered a 2.9 million ounce platinum group element (PGE) resource at their Arctic Platinum Partnership in northern Finland. ”Preliminary analysis suggests…the resource may be extractable by open pit mining methods,” the companies said. Gold Fields spokesman Willie Jacobz said the prospects for a mine appeared promising, adding that a feasability study would begin later this year and be completed next year. ”That study will let us know whether or not we can mine there,” he said. Gold Fields was down 1.61% at R24.50 on the back of a weaker gold price while Outokumpu was up 10 cents to 11.00 euro. – Reuters
