Mail & Guardian reporter

The fourth international writers’ festival, Time of the Writer, organised by the University of Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts, in association with the French Institute of South Africa, will run from March 26 to 31.

Fifteen writers representing 11 different countries will give readings, presentations, on-stage interviews and discussions. The festival is sub-titled Migrating Words, which reflects the cultural diversity of participants and the interactive exchanges expected during the week-long event.

Writers this year include Buchi Emecheta (Nigeria); Alexander Kanengoni (Zimbabwe); Achmat Dangor, Ronnie Govender, EKM Dido, Zoe Wicomb and Mandla Langa (all South Africa); Mongo Beti (Cameroon); J Bernlef (The Netherlands); Mia Couto (Mozambique); Dany Laferierre (Haiti); Ernest Pepin (Guadeloupe); Michele Rakotoson (Madagascar); and Swiss writer Hansjorg Schertenleb.

Time of the Writer takes place at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from March 26 to 31. Bookings can be made at Computicket, www.computicket.co.za
