RESPECTED anti-racism cleric, Doctor Beyers Naude, may have one of Johannesburg’s prominent streets the DF Malan Drive – named after him, the city’s executive Mayor Amos Masondo hinted on Wednesday. Naude is to be given the freedom of Johannesburg as an honour to the ailing veteran activist’s role in dedicating his adult life fighting against apartheid and for the upliftment of the victims of the discredited system. Speaking during the city council’s weekly media briefings, Masondo said the renaming of the street was still being considered for inclusion as part of Naude’s Freedom of the City honour and that the decision would hopefully be reached in September. A public participation process on the renaming of the street would be made through major newspapers. – AFP
